On 6th May 2023, WWE released more details about their new championship. The new details were significant in nature and aimed at clearing some confusion among WWE fans. However, Triple H was not going to sit silently through the weekend and just turned up the heat of this sports season. As most of you must be aware, the NBA and NHL playoffs are currently going on, and WWE jumped into the competition.
There’s no doubt that all three sports leagues are contrasting in play. However, there’s one way for WWE to compete with different sports leagues. And if reports are to be believed, the promotion might have relaunched the new championship to win this competition.
WWE’s reason to launch the new championship
When sports become entertainment, there are no barriers to compete in. All of them stand in the same line as viewers choose their picks. Considering the NBA’s and NHL’s scale of audience, WWE will face hardships in competing to get the attention of sports enthusiasts. Since playoffs for both the sports leagues attract a lot of audiences, WWE decided to launch their own ‘playoff’ this season.
While announcing the new World Heavyweight Championship, Triple H took shots at Roman Reigns for not showing up to defend his title enough. Levesque said that the audience deserves a champion who can show up to defend the title almost every week. So, once The Tribal Chief was taken to SmackDown, the new WWE title was kept on Raw. As a result, WWE announced that one winner from each brand, Raw and SmackDown, will eventually compete at the Night of the Champions. The declared winner will be the ruler of Monday Night Raw.

Although some people were unhappy with Triple H’s decision, reports suggest that he might be onto something. Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested that WWE launched the new championship just for viewers’ attention. So, in this way, WWE is competing with other sports leagues as well.
For some WWE followers, things got even more confusing. Like how Jim Cornette listed his confusion: “Why are you giving SmackDown people a chance at a title that’s gonna be exclusive to RAW, to begin with?” Although the promotion could be having a plan for the same, the general audience still seems confused.
