The world of golf always introduces new competitions. For both players and viewers, it keeps things interesting and new. These tournaments might include brand-new events for the circuit as well as updated iterations of past competitions. Additionally, they can draw more spectators and corporate sponsors to the sport, which will ultimately boost its acceptance and financial viability. In the meantime, the PGA Tour has started using one of them.
While the new LIV Golf league has been introducing new tournaments to make the league more popular, PGA Tour has also decided to increase their presence. The Tour has come up with a brand-new competition at a historical venue.
PGA Tour announces a new tournament
The PGA Tour has made the decision to launch a new tournament. The PGA Tour took to their Twitter handle to announce the big news. The Myrtle Beach Classic will make its debut near South Carolina’s Grand Strand in 2024. Visit Myrtle Beach has already reached a four-year agreement to sponsor the new competition and will take place during the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup regular season in 2024.
It will be held in the same week as the FedExCup event as a full-field extra event. The winner of the first tournament will get 300 FedExCup points in addition to the $3.9 million cash prize. However, the dates of the tournament are not fixed yet. The dates for the Myrtle Beach Classic will be announced only when the FedExCup 2024’s full schedule is released.
