As of late, there’s been a lot of conversations and opinions being thrown around over the inclusion or exclusion of practice for the Daytona 500. On one side, there’re drivers like Denny Hamlin, who argue NASCAR should implement practice sessions. While on the other side, there are drivers like Joey Logano, who feel it’s just a waste of time.
And now, there’s one more driver who has shared his opinion on whether there should be practice sessions or not ahead of the Great American Race.
That driver is Corey LaJoie.

In a recent episode of the Stacking Pennies podcast, LaJoie opened up on the subject of having practice sessions before Sunday’s big show.
But instead of Hamlin or Logano, LaJoie had a more diplomatic opinion. One which didn’t completely echo one side while also describing why one is important over the other.
“One heater, which is interesting, that the biggest race of the year, not even one lap of practice,” LaJoie said to which his co-host wondered if NASCAR is compensating for the fact that there was too much practice in the past.
“They might’ve overcompensated because last year with no notes on the Next Gen car, or simulation, not really tuned in with no notes in terms of what makes the Next Gen car go around the track, it took us legitimately 45 minutes to make our car get down to pit road,” LaJoie replied.
“It legitimately took us all of first practice to make one lap, let alone find your heights, and do all the stuff, and figure out how it drives.”

It was Denny Hamlin who felt NASCAR should bring back the practice for the Daytona 500 simply because it would help certain drivers like Travis Pastrana, an opinion with which some fans also agreed.
“We don’t have one lap of practice before we qualify for our biggest race of the year. Somebody had to explain that to me. I mean, I can tell you this from the owner’s perspective, it was never brought up to us,” Hamlin added.
Then there was Logano’s pretty brutal and straightforward take on this. “Let’s be honest, the practice they had before, qualifying…that’s a snoozefest, bro,” he said in a recent interview with SiriusXM.
“I’m with NASCAR on this one. To hell with it,” he continued.
