There are not many women who have made it big in motorsports. But if we can name one woman who went against the tide to do it, that’s Susie Wolff. Other than being the partner in crime of Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, Susie is known to be one of the most successful Women in F1. Iron-willed as she is, she recently came up to talk about why she is regarded as one of the best in business in a recent Women’s network event organized by Mercedes.
There, in the event, Wolff laid out the groundwork for women to follow if they are to make it big in motorsport. Mercedes, on their LinkedIn account posted, “We were delighted to welcome Susie to Brackley last week as a guest speaker at our third internal Women’s Network event. Susie talked and held a Q&A with team members about her journey in motorsport and entrepreneurial work.”

“Since her retirement from racing in 2016, Susie has played a pivotal role in encouraging females into Motorsport through her Dare To Be Different campaign. Our Women’s Network committee aims to create a supportive community, facilitate discussion between team members and enhance the inclusivity of our culture here at our Team,” further stated the report on the 40-year-old Scottish international who has the record to back young female motorsport talents.
While Susie Wolff was still making headlines in the sport, she became the first woman in 22 years to complete a race weekend in F1. She achieved this feat when she took part in a FP during the 2014 British Grand Prix for Williams.

Talking about this, Wolff told the Irish, ”We just need more young women entering the sport, there are just not enough women competing to rise to the top.”
“Naturally it would help to have one young woman racing, I believe when you can see it you can believe it, open up the sport, make it more accessible and you will inspire the next generation,” the former Williams driver concluded.

Although the name Jamie Chadwick comes to mind, there are arguably no female drivers close to joining the sport. Not at least in the next few years, believes F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. However, measures are taken by F1 to reverse this and make more and more women interested in motorsport.
