Bodybuilding and social media have developed a deep connection ever since digitalization began creating its impact. Many retired and young bodybuilders release a lot of their content on social media to update fans about themselves and interact with them. However, recently, IFBB Pro bodybuilder, Zack King Khan (ZKK) criticized social media for influencing the judging pattern of judges.
42-year-old ZKK began bodybuilding after getting inspired by legends Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. After winning several bodybuilding championships, ZKK got his IFBB Pro Card in 2009. The 280 lbs bodybuilder stopped competing after 2015 due to a serious injury. Recently, he appeared on a YouTube chat show focusing on the dark sides of bodybuilding.
ZKK talks about the role of social media in bodybuilding
In a candid interview, featured on the YouTube channel Muscular Development Clips, ZKK talked about how social media creates a notion in the minds of the fans about the bodybuilders before the event takes place. He discussed that fans and judges already knew that Big Ramy had a competition-winning body. Therefore, he was placed on the extreme left among other bodybuilders.
As a result, the judges received a chance to analyze other bodybuilders due to which Ramy’s chances of winning became weak. Taking examples from Mr.Olympia 2022, ZKK stated in the interview, “social media is a fuck up with these types of situations and it influences the judges a lot whether you like it or not it influences judges judging a lot how”
ZKK believed that social media plays a pivotal role in creating hype about things that may or may not be true. Just like fans, judges also go on social media and become a part of the hype. However, he implies that it majorly influences their decision, since they sit with pre-conceived notions in their minds.
ZKK states that bodybuilding is unhealthy
Apart from talking about the side effects of social media, bodybuilder ZKK also stated that bodybuilding is an unhealthy habit. According to him bodybuilding competitions such as Arnold Classic and Mr.Olympia create immense pressure on bodybuilders as they have to prepare for them back to back. This exhausts the body to the core leading to several health conditions.

Justifying his statement, the bodybuilder stated, “It’s never gonna be healthy. You can do it a little bit healthier. Let’s be honest and don’t fool ourselves.” Moreover, he also stated that bodybuilders do not consider the damage that supplements do to their bodies. According to that, ZKK insists that bodybuilding is “not a healthy sport”.
