Still only 24, Nelly Korda is an inspiration to many around the globe. She is a former World No. 1 and an Olympic Golf medalist at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo 2020. But among the legion of fans, who’s her biggest-ever supporter? While there must be thousands of them, LPGA golfer, Christina Kim, who’s actually older than Korda herself, might stake a claim.

A veteran of the women’s circuit, Christina Kim once spoke glowingly about Nelly Korda and her fandom behind the trailblazing star. She shared her views during last year’s penultimate event, the Pelican Women’s Championship.
Ahead of the last round of the event, when Korda was leading, Kim was awestruck by playing up close with her ‘girl crush’. While the 3-year-old had a good round herself, behind by just two strokes off Korda, she wasn’t paired with her for Sunday’s final round.
“I’m a little sad that I’m not going to be paired with Nelly [in the last round] because can we talk about her for a minute?” Kim said, before embarking on her fandom. “This was my first time playing in a competitive round with her period, let alone since she turned No. 1 in the world. I don’t care who’s out there, I might be her biggest fan.”
Kim ‘teared’ up at Korda’s radiant future
Fondly known for her animated style and unreserved personality, Kim didn’t hold herself back when talking about Korda off the course. “You could hand her a frying pan and she’d be able to do anything with any club,” she said. “She’s got a beautiful laugh, beautiful smile, just a really, really warm heart. So I was just like – girl crush.”
Having played at the highest level herself, Kim was proud of the present generation of golfers led by Korda. “I’m absolutely just in awe of her,” Kim said. “And I told her it almost brought teared to my eye knowing the future of the game, the next generation is in her hands. I almost swore. It’s freaking awesome.”
The words seemed to have given Korda a much-needed boost, as she went on to win the Pelican Women’s Championship in dramatic fashion. On the other hand, Kim finished the event in 16th place.
