Usain Bolt has broken multiple records on the track. The Jamaican sprinter is recognized as the world’s fastest man alive, despite having retired from the sport years ago.

Nicknamed ‘Lightning Bolt’, his speed is often compared to some of the faster activities we usually see around us. Whether it’s the sprint of a cheetah or a chef’s insane chopping skills, sometimes the star himself is amused by these comparisons.

The Jamaican was once involved in a playful race against popular British chef Jamie Oliver. And to much surprise, the sprinter lost. While not a competitive race, of course, it was definitely a race against time, and here’s how Jamie Oliver managed to beat the fastest man alive.

Inside a restaurant overlooking a lovely view, sprinter Usain Bolt and chef Jamie Oliver talked about the athlete’s choice of food and his culture back in 2020. While they discussed exotic Jamaican flavors, Bolt was asked what skill he would like to learn in the kitchen.

The athlete instantly replied, “chopping.” Watching chefs belt out their knife skills fascinated him, and he requested the chef to teach him to chop onions.

Chopping an onion proved to have a steep learning curve for Bolt. The 6’5 tall sprinter got his own special chopping ‘box’ board, so he didn’t have to hunch. He slowly cut horizontal slices and made vertical chops, following Jamie’s instructions. However, the sprinter confessed that he felt embarrassed since onlookers in the restaurant watched and cheered for him.

Later, chef Jamie suggested having a ‘chop off’! Both got down to see who could chop an onion the fastest. While Bolt tried his best, he definitely couldn’t beat a professional chef in his field.

Jamie impressed Bolt with his quick and smooth knife skills and beat him in a race against time. Although shocked by his skills, Bolt was sporty enough to accept his loss. He may be the star of the track, but he has a long way to go to be the star in the kitchen.
