Imagine having all the legendary sports icons together at one event. Similarly, this weekend’s event at Sotheby’s is minutely close to it. From Derek Jeter to Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez, Kobe Bryant, Babe Ruth, Serena Williams, and Rafael Nadal, this event at Sotheby’s displays memorabilia of all sporting superstars across the world.

With a mind-blowing and extensively rich selection of merchandise, Sotheby’s event is something to look forward to. The auction is a continuation of the “Invictus” event whose part one is running simultaneously displaying Michael Jordan’s jersey from game 1 of the 1998 NBA championship.

Which legends have their memorabilia displayed at Sotheby’s?

The event is the largest-ever auction of sports memorabilia. Brahm Watched from Sotheby told The Post, “We tried to pick a lot of things that spoke to really specific moments in time that we felt collectors would be interested in.”

The event will auction Derek Jeter’s Jordans at $30,000-$50,000. Besides that, it will display Babe Ruth‘s ball at $15,000-$20,000 and Serena and Nadal’s kicks at $5,000-$10,000 and $20,000-$30,000, respectively. It also contains A-Rod’s hat from the 2009 World Series.

Apart from these, the auction also consists of Kobe’s jersey, Gretzky’s big stick, Ali’s kufi, amongst other items.

Can Aaron Judge be the next Derek Jeter?

Since Jeter retired in 2014, the Yanks haven’t found a fitting predecessor. Similarly, even after Don Mattingly retired in 1995, the Yankees front office took eight years to appoint Jeter as their new skipper. Given these two instances, it shows the value the Yanks lay on the title of captaincy. Moving on to 2022, it’s now been eight years since the Yanks elected an on-field skipper.

Then comes Aaron Judge. Judge entered free agency in 2022 after failed contract negotiations with the Yankees. Betting on himself, 2022 has been the most fruitful season for the outfielder, who has already clocked 54 home runs. As the season and postseason progress, this number is only going to increase.

Do you think one season is enough to justify Aaron Judge as the next Yankee skipper? Or is this just a one-time wonder? What do you think?
